I don’t make new years resolutions. They don’t make sense to me. Anything can be done at any time. If you need to wait until monday or Jan 1st then you’re just making too many excuses.
I don’t ever make new year resolutions but last year I made a wish list regarding my athletic development: 90kg Clean and Jerk, 70kg Snatch, get better at double unders and muscle ups. Everything came true except for the 70kg snatch. But hey, the year is not over YET!
Why am I telling you this? Because I know it works. Putting the things you want black on white is so much more powerful than living by “how things go” or even worse: complaining about xyz. Put it on paper, make a plan and then execute. Be as specific as possible. Writing down “I want to be better at CrossFit” is not a specific goal. What exactly do you want to get better at? How are you going to get better at it?
Here is my personal wish list for 2016:
Become technically more perfect in weightlifting, specifically the snatch.
In weightlifting you never get to say “I’m good enough now”. There is ALWAYS work to be done. I’m pretty happy where I am strengthwise but I know I have tons of weaknesses regarding my technique and I want to get better at that in 2016.
I will take more time to do mobility, train with lighter weights more often and work on specific weaknesses like overhead stability and speed.
Master unbroken butterfly chest to bar pull-ups with more ease.
That includes better technique as well because my movements will become more efficient.
It also includes working on my midline stability and more strict work.
Get better at running (fast).
I started a conditioning program in november (written by Chris Hinshaw) which I will continue in 2016.
Running is one of those skills that can really break me in a workout. I have no talent for it whatsoever and it’s always going to be a fight. But I am willing to work on that and willing to make my worst enemy a friend.
Im excited to read about your goals for 2016. What’s on your athletic wish list for the new year?
